Danny will be coming from New York to join Hom Nath ji for this event.

Join us for a rare performance of eastern classical music by two masters of the art.

The sarod is a beautiful stringed instrument with a fretless neck played somewhat like a slide guitar. As Danny’s masterful playing will show, the instrument produces an extraordinary variety of tones, hues and emotions. The tabla is the classical percussion drum of North India, Nepal, and Pakistan. In the hands of a master like Pandit Upadhyaya it produces an amazing array of sounds and rhythms. When combined these two instruments and musicians have the potential to evoke some of the deepest sentiments of humanity.

Danny Birch has Master in Music from Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith of Locknow, India. For many years, he performed and taught in Kathmandu, including the last 6 years teaching at the Kathmandu University, Department of Music. Recently, he returned to live in America for the first time since 1974.

Homanth Upadhyaya has been royal court musician for the kings of Nepal for many years. He has been teaching and performing tabla for over thirty years. This Fall, he is teaching classical music at the University of California, Santa Barbara. With this evening’s concert he commences his fourth tour of the United States.

We are looking forward to seeing you on coming Sunday at 7:00PM.
