Here's the way to do:

In the Internet Explorer, go to File, Import and Export, Next, Export Favorites, and give it a name and the destination. And save that htm file to the portable drive and when you are done with the formatting, you can save that htm page as favorites, which will restore all the favorites.

Or, this is how I'd personally do. In the windows explorer, type (Or go to Start, Run and type):

C:\Documents and Settings\Slackdemic\

Please note that you have to type your log in name in the place of Slackdemic. Find the favorites folder on that page and save it to the portable disk. After you are ready, just paste/move the favorite folder to the same location. Should work fine! :)

Open your IE

File > Imports and Exports >Export Favorites
highlight the "Favorite" folder to select all your favorites. Save the file. When you reinstall the IE again, repeat the same procedure with Import.

Or go to C:\Documents and Settings\Username find the folder Favorites and copy the whole folder and save it somewhere.

Or just get a freeware called Bookmark Wizard and let it do the work
